Why do I have both Check Point and BitDefender/ZoneAlarm for security?

$

Hi,

I am running Windows 10 on an ASUS laptop. I downloaded Bitdefender Antivirus and ZoneAlarm for security. I also seem to have various Check Point apps too: Endpoint and Sandblast Agent. I didn't download these and they don't appear in the app list when I open it up. I only noticed them when I checked my system as it was running slow. The Sandblaster seems to take up a lot of CPU, memory, and power. I just wondered if the Check Point apps were part of one of the other programs or if these are unnecessary/duplicating services?

Any advice would be much appreciated

Anti-virus comparison websites are confusing

In the past I've used 2 websites to compare anti-virus programs and see how they stack up. One is av-comparatives.org and the other is av-test.org. I don't think the two sites are affiliated. I've always taken their information into consideration with my own real world experience at work and it was usually pretty similar. When something comes up about a particular anti-virus that I am not as familiar with, I like to compare the two and if both sites agreed then I feel like the results are probably accurate. Sort of like asking two doctors or mechanics their opinion and getting the same response.

Today someone asked me about using F-Secure SAFE Anti-Virus and when I looked at the test results on av-comparatives.org the results were not good. F-Secure had 25 false positives and the only other anti-virus that was worse was Microsoft. Even...

Recommendations on EndPoint Protection

With some major issues getting licensing with Symantec Endpoint Protection, I'm curious what else is out there.  We currently have 2000 end points and would like something that isn't cloud based.

Appreciate any input you have!

Endpoint protection expires in a couple of months...

Happy New Year Spiceheads,

I've just been notified that our hosted endpoint protection expires in a couple of months and I like to look at the alternatives.

We are a small, but growing manufacturing company (currently about 60 endpoints). Since I started 9 months ago we've implemented an RDS Gateway to allow a select number of customers and Mimecast for email protection/auditing/compliance etc. We currently have over 100 domains in DNS for web filtering! Email is exclusively Office 365 (no Exchange Server)

We currently useSymantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition (55 licences, the rest using Windows Defender) and I'd like to look at something a bit more comprehensive.

My wishlist is:

1. My users are not the brightest bunch, so it needs to be invisible (no "We're scanning this link Do you want to continue?" popups)

2. Proper Web...

Infected Computer - What do you use to clean up?

This is likely asked all the time, and the answers will change from time to time. I would like to know what you use to clean up a computer that is infected with some unknown malware to ensure that it can be put back into production. All without wiping and reloading an image or starting over.

The reason I ask is that one of my relatives - again - got themselves infected with their PC. A fake virus warning from Microsoft stating to give them a call to fix the problem. No idea yet if I am dealing with ransomware, if any infection actually took hold, etc. I get to troubleshoot this remotely and walk them through cleanup, as they are 15 hours away. Of course, there are no backups for this computer.

They unplugged the computer as soon as they saw it and it has been off since. They have TeamViewer installed so I can remotely support them when...

Comparing AV Products

I'm curious to know how many people are currently using Defender ATP and how it compares to other AV (Trend, CarbonBlack, Crowdstrike, etc.) products on the market. Just doing some independent research and would love to know what everyone is using!

Vipre roaming not in console

Hey Folks,

So I am messing with roaming agents for vipre due to network separation, and I am having a helluva time. I have the agent working client-side and showing in console, but another one refuses to show in console. The client is able to update definitions and scan/protect the PC, but it refuses to show in console. These two PCs are on the same subnet btw, which is different than the console subnet. Why would one work and the other shit the bed on server communication? I have repaired it multiple times with the installer...completely removed it and re-installed; I'm at a loss at this point.

Hey all,

A very interesting read if you have time.

https://go.crowdstrike.com/rs/281-OBQ-266/images/Report2019CrowdStrikeServices.pdf

The annual CrowdStrike Services Cyber Front Lines Report is now available. This year's report takes a different approach than in previous years. It focuses on the important trends and themes observed by our services team as they investigated, responded to and remediated incidents across the globe in 2019, rather than the anonymized case-specific examples featured in previous years.

As always, protecting our valued customers is at the core of all we do. We hope the analysis and lessons learned contained in this report will help inform your proactive security measures and...

Affordable AV and Firewall to protect windows domain (Non-Profit pricing plz)

I had no clue that Symantec was bought out and the new company pulled all their renewals from Techsoup so I'm on the edge of all of my seats expiring and the renewal page inside the serverisn't working (my guess is they want me to go through a different partner and purchase "maintenance" at a much higher cost). I emailed Symantec support but I have little hope for them to reply or call me in time for my renewal needs so I need to know what else is good out there.

Before you say Bitdefender, I tried them and didn't like them.

I currently have tabs open for Avast Business, ESET, and Sophos; all 3 of them are expensive since I'm not getting non-profit pricing (501c3 if anyone asks) but I need to know what's the best for the money.

Things I need:

  • Endpoint virus/malware protection
  • Endpoint spoofing/phishing protection
  • Endpoint firewall...

Bitdefender Gravityzone - repeatedly removing KMS spico activator

Hi,

I have implemented gravityzone cloud version at a local network with 1 relay that pushes out updates etc. The network has copy's of windows running activated with KMS spico.
Although there are exclusions set in the default policy for that network, the application still removes or quarantines the KMS spico actoivator from windows, and the network admin then has to re-activate windows again on multiple pc's.

Can't seem to find how the software still removes this exclusion.

If anyone if familiar with exclusions in gravityzone or how to excluse KMS, pls send some tips.

Is anyone familiar with the BACKDOOR:PHP/Remoteshell.D virus?  It was detected by Microsoft Defender on an in-house laptop.  Microsoft Defender claims to have removed the virus but yet it came back after about 1 week.  I have searched for info on this virus on the Internet and have not found a good definition, nor how to manually remove it.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

How to push out updated policy changes in Malwarebytes

I have added some exclusions to my Malwarebytes policy and I need to send them out to my endpoints but am unsuccessful.  I tried deploying from the deployment screen of the management console and it said successful but nothing happened.  So I tried to push out a client update which would also send the policy changes but it says a newer version is already installed on the endpoints and fails.  I contacted Malwarebytes support but they are as slow as a sloth.  Anyone have any advice?

Bitdefender Gravityzone: Allow access to blocked Web site

$

Brand new user, coming over from Symantec Endpoint Protection Cloud. BitDefender is blocking access to our CMS (ExpressionEngine v1.73, which is, granted, very old and obscure). BD reports it contains a malicious attack attempt, PrivacyThreat.PasswordStealer.HTTP, which I think is a false positive (SEP didn't block it). I set up a firewall rule and a web access control exclusion (both are in force now), to try to get it to allow us access, but those don't work. As a brand new user, I may not have done them correctly, although it seems like a fairly straightforward process.

Please let me know what more information you might need, and thanks for any advice.
