I have a Windows 7 PC that is running like molasses; lots of delays, heavy network traffic, delayed keyboard and mouse action, the "blue ring of sloth". Shows all the earmarks of being infected with something. Ran several anti-virus programs, Malwarebytes, and I even tried Malwarebytes new root kit beta. Nothing. Did a major cleanup of the OS HDD. No help.
But during my examination, I noticed that there were folders being created in %APPDATA%\Local\Temp, almost every 10-15 seconds. These folders were named as a four-digit hex number. The contents of each folder contains an AppData folder, under which are a Local and Roaming folder, under each of these is a Microsoft\Windows\History folder. In this folder is a desktop.ini file and the contents of this file is largely as follows:
