I would like to hear some suggestions about how to configure our antivirus product (kaspersky) and in particular how i should go about scheduling virus scans.
We almost exclusively work on laptops. this makes it pretty impossible to schedule a virus scan outside of business hours (while implementing w.o.l.). i have tried implementing a scan at noon but i have gotten a lot of negative feedback because users do not all go to lunch at noon (varies between 12:00 and 13:00 when users go to lunch) and some times a scan is not completed within 1 hour.
do you find it necessary to implement a schedule virus scan? how often and what should i be scanning? or can i just trust the running protection system to catch everything?
right now i have set up a daily scan to run at 12:05 and scan only c:\windows and the registry / memory and it should quit if it takes longer than 30 minutes, it rarely finishes within that time period but anything longer gets me a office full of developers complaining about slow laptops :(
