Weirdest one YET!

We have several assistants who use a transcription program called Universal Start Stop(HTH Engineering). In the last couple of weeks, a new attorney has sent a dictation file from his Phillips digital recorder(.dss format) to each of them for transcription.

Even though StartStop can/will open .dss files(usually) in this case it just sits, hangs and eventually crashes the program... no big deal.   Then, one by one, each of their computers will run completely out of drive space, the most recent I tested this on started at 195GB free and within 3-4 minutes, as I refreshed, it was dropping at about a GB every 30-40 seconds.

Anyone out there ever dealt with anything remotely similar to this. I suspect the recording device to be infected with something, but I have scanned it's external SD card and come up clean... possibly internal memory on the device?

Microsoft Security Essentials comes up clean.
