So i am the IT admin / helpdesk / monkey at a recruiting firm. I directly report to the CIO.
The guy before me purchased Eset Endpoint AV, and installed an old version of, it, a really basic configuration, and didnt bother turning on update services for any of it. as can be expected, it didnt work right, and because of the old version caused issues with outlook in windows 8.1.
we still have a years worth of protection, and more than enough licenses, and i went through with eset, and made a badass config, updated all the endpoints to the latest version, and proved that it was working flawlessly. yet the boss wants me to remove it and install security essentials / activate windows defender.
I consider this security suicide, and would prefer to install my own viruses than let security essentials wreak havoc on my network. my job already has too much stuff to do in a day and i don't need countless employees with viruses, and the crypto-virus ruining rampant on the network to finally sink me into submission.
every time i bring it up its like bringing up a childs dead parents, he shits a brick and gets defensive claiming that security essentials has worked fine for him over the years, and that his superstition about eset which was just configured improperly is perfectly justified and he demands its removal.
what do i do? do i go over his head and appeal to the ceo? do i just let it happen, and show off my many emails of disdain towards the idea when shit hits the fan to prove my point?
how have you dealt with an irrational, costly, and downright stupid decision coming from your boss in the past?
