In the past I would do the following to an infected (or possibly infected) Windows machine:
Using a write protected/bootable USB (Kangaroo) with computer in Safe Mode
- Run Combo Fix
- Run Ad Aware
- Scan with Malware Bytes
- Scan with ClamWin (can run from USB OS as well)
There was a time when all of these programs were "portable" and could be ran from a USB. Now it seems like you need to install and uninstall MB, ComboFix has sold out and most of the other rootkit scanners are nothing more than adware, bloatware themselves.
Does anyone have any procedural/product recommendations or solutions to safely scanning a computer or laptop offline for everything? The more portable options the better. Also, running from USB OS would be a bonus. Thank You,
