Here's the scenario:
We had a cryptolocker virus tear through our servers over the weekend (had good backups, all is well - it just took a lot of time). I can only guess it traveled via mapped drives as everyone has a User drive and a Shared drive on their PC. My idea is to eliminate the mapped drives on everyone's computer and only create shortcut links (.lnk) to their specific network drives on the server on their PC's.
Can someone confirm that this would eliminate the issue of potential viruses hopping from computer to server via mapped drives as there would be no mapped drive, only a shortcut link created on the desktop that points to the folder on the server.
